  • Drag reducing agents are additives in any pipe or conduit that reduces friction pressure loss during fluid flow. They are most commonly used in petroleum pipelines to increase pipeline capacity by reducing turbulence and allowing oil to flow more efficiently. The increased flow rate allows the operator to save pumping energy because the pressure required to maintain the flow rate is reduced, which greatly reduces energy management costs. The installation of DRA is very easy because it is directly injected into the pipeline product using the injection pump and the fuel tank, so no large capital expenditure is required. The heat transfer performance of pipes using DRA is low, which reduces the heat transfer to surrounding pipes. Therefore, the use of DRA can make the oil field safer. Because of its low cost and high profitability, most players in the field tend to install them.
