Automotive knock sensor is used to detect knocking in combustion chamber of an automotive engine. Knock sensor consist of piezoelectric elements, which produce an electric signal based on vibrations caused by detonation. The engine uses this signal to retard timing when a spark knock occurs. Automotive knock sensor is located in the lower engine block, cylinder head, or intake manifold so that it can sense the vibration caused by the engine knock or detonation.
